The Dandenong Hand Unit is a highly specialised and collaborative group of six hand specialists who provide care to public patients in Victoria. We are involved in teaching and mentoring surgeons-in-training and fellowship trained Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgeons pursuing a career in Hand Surgery. Research is an integral component of our clinical work and encompasses clinical and biomechanics lab based research.

OWL is an advocate for women in orthopaedics. OWL aims to encourage and support women through their orthopaedic careers, from as early as medical school, through to consultant level. I currently serve as the Victorian and Tasmanian representative and run workshops and discussion groups to support medical students, trainees and consultants. The Victorian Orthopaedic Research Trust is a small-scale charity established in 1998. Their main activity is to support young researchers in the field of Orthopedic surgery in Victoria. It is administered and delivered through the AOA. I serve as a trustee of the Board of Directors.

The Victorian Audit of Surgical Mortality is a systematic peer-review audit of deaths associated with surgical care. VASM is a collaboration between the Victorian Government’s Department of Health, Safer Care Victoria and RACS. I currently serve as the Victorian Orthopaedic representative to VASM.
The excellent work of this organisation led by my friend and colleague Dr Neela Janakiramanan, has been instrumental in achieving health outcomes for detainees in Nauru and PNG. I have been involved in performing health assessments for detainees with hand problems whilst the Medevac program was supported by the government.
