Leadership and Advocacy

HWMRF

The Dandenong Hand Unit is a highly specialised and collaborative group of six hand specialists who provide care to public patients in Victoria. We are involved in teaching and mentoring surgeons-in-training and fellowship trained Orthopaedic and Plastic Surgeons pursuing a career in Hand Surgery. Research is an integral component of our clinical work and encompasses clinical and biomechanics lab based research.

AOA OWL

OWL is an advocate for women in orthopaedics. OWL aims to encourage and support women through their orthopaedic careers, from as early as medical school, through to consultant level. I have previously served as the Victorian and Tasmanian representative and run workshops and discussion groups to support medical students, trainees and consultants. I continue to be engaged in advocating for Women in Orthopaedics and Diversity in Orthopaedics both at a National, International and subspecialty level. If you would like to get in touch about any of our work, please make contact here. Follow us using #AOAOWL on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

VOF

Victorian Orthopaedic Foundation

The Victorian Orthopaedic Foundation is a small-scale charity established in 1998. Their main activity is to support young researchers in the field of Orthopedic surgery in Victoria. It is administered and delivered through the AOA. I serve as a trustee of the Board of Directors. If you would like to donate to the research foundation, please click here.

IODA

International Orthopaedic Diversity alliance

As a founding member of The International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance, our aim is to advance the inclusion of women & under-represented minorities in Orthopaedic Surgery across the many countries. It is an international collaboration with a vision to create an Orthopaedic culture in which everyone can thrive. Please reach out if you want to find out more about how to become involved. Follow us using @orthodiversity on X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn.

VASM

The Victorian Audit of Surgical Mortality is a systematic peer-review audit of deaths associated with surgical care.  VASM is a collaboration between the Victorian Government’s Department of Health, Safer Care Victoria and RACS.  I have previously served as the Victorian Orthopaedic representative to VASM.

Independent Doctors Network

Refugee Health

The excellent work of this organisation led by my friend and colleague Dr Neela Janakiramanan, has been instrumental in achieving health outcomes for detainees in Nauru and PNG. I have been involved in performing health assessments for detainees with hand problems whilst the Medevac program was supported by the government.

Australian Orthopaedic Association

Orthopaedic Surgery is a structured and supportive community of specialists that continue to train the next generation of specialist Orthopaedic Surgeons. In my work at Austin Health and Monash Health at Dandenong Hospital, I serve as a training supervisor to mentor young surgeons. Both hospitals are University teaching hospitals for medical students at University of Melbourne and Monash University respectively. Through the AOA, I am regularly involved in the selection process to recruit the best and brightest talent to join our National training program.  This ongoing cycle of learning and support is what has given me the opportunity to come to this stage in my career and it is with gratitude that I continue to support those who will continue after me. Academic Surgery

Progressing the field of surgery requires inquiry through basic science and translation into clinical practice for the betterment of patient outcomes. I am involved in research at a University, public and private practice level by engaging with subspecialty colleagues locally, nationally and internationally in the fields of shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist surgery and Diversity in Orthopaedics. I am regularly involved in convening and presenting at National and International meetings for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Australian Orthopaedic Association, Australian Hand Surgery Society, Victorian Hand Surgery Society, Australian Orthopaedic Trauma Society, International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH) and South East Asian Orthopaedic Societies (ASEAN and RCOST). I provide medicolegal specialist services in relation to independent joint medical examinations, workplace injuries, transport accidents, public liability matters, total permanent disability and medical negligence claims.

Hockey Victoria

I currently represent Hockey Victoria as a multicultural ambassador in helping promote a culturally diverse and inclusive environment in which we can encourage people from all backgrounds to play and love the game of hockey.

I am a proud playing member of Toorak East Malvern Hockey club and love the game. The game has given me the chance to play with my daughter and be involved in a wonderful community of all ages and backgrounds.
