About Dr Avanthi Mandaleson

"Teamwork makes the dream work!"
- Brooke Adams

Avanthi Mandaleson

(BMedSci, MBBS, FRACS, FAOrthA)

I was born and raised in the UK to Sri Lankan parents and moved to Australia in 2002 to complete my medical degree at Monash University in Melbourne. This perspective has shaped my view of the world. I have always had a deep interest in learning how I can help and understand the needs of those who are suffering.

Over the years I have worked with the elderly in nursing homes, worked in medical aid camps in Africa and public health programs in rural India. I have played international level junior badminton and National League club level hockey. All of these opportunities and experiences have allowed me to see the world through different lenses.

I hope that this perspective allows me to practise medicine and contribute to society in a way that is culturally sensitive and inclusive. I have chosen the path of Orthopaedic Surgery and specialising in the field of hand and reconstructive surgery as it allows me the ability to treat a spectrum of age groups and conditions from limb saving surgery to elite athletes aiming to maintain high performance function, each of which are equally important.

I completed my medical undergraduate training at Monash University in 2004 and subsequently trained through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Australian Orthopaedic Association in Orthopaedic Surgery, graduating in 2014. Further training in trauma, hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder surgery in Melbourne, UK and India has allowed me to gain the subspecialty skills to manage a range of paediatric, adult, degenerative, sports and trauma reconstruction.

I feel strongly about contributing to the future of our profession and the way we continue to serve and deliver healthcare to the community.  For this reason I serve on various local and national committees. For more information about my other areas of interest and engagement, please click here.

My aim is to to provide you with evidence based information in a way that allows you to make the most informed choices about your health. I hope to work with you to help you reach your own personal goals, whether it be improving your pain or getting you back to work or the hobby you love.

David Olive headshot

Dr David Olive

Anaesthetist

Dr Olive is a highly skilled, experienced and respected anaesthetist.  Safety is at the forefront of my mind during your operation. However, I firmly believe that a good anaesthetist can provide so much more than just safe passage through the peri-operative period. What is routine for me can be daunting or frightening for the patient. I am confident that with good communication, I can allay such anxieties and make your experience a more positive one. Some patients are just generally anxious but can’t put their finger on why. Others have a specific concern – e.g. scared of needles through to scared of dying, and everything in between. I’ve heard every one of them, so if you have a particular worry, please raise it with me. We will meet at the pre-anaesthesia consultation. Otherwise I am happy to speak to you prior to the day of surgery if you contact my office.

I am married with two daughters and a son. I speak French, a legacy of a childhood in Montreal, Canada. I enjoy golf, and supporting the mighty Hawks.

Fees – Out-of-pocket (gap) fees range from $250-500

Billing – You will receive a separate bill from Associated Anaesthetic Group. For any billing queries, please contact 03 9900 0010.
